The goals of the subproject: to improve the quality of life for rural population families by supporting their activities of healthy way of living; to create an opportunity for pupils, youth and their parents to perfect their knowledge and motivate them for lifelong education; to  encourage  improvement  of  life  environment  for  the  young  families  with  children  and seniors who are under the risk of social rejection and poverty.


Project Summary:

The name of the subproject: "Little strokes fell great oaks". The goals of the subproject:

  • to improve the quality of life for rural population families by supporting their activities of healthy way of living;
  • to create an opportunity for pupils, youth and their parents to perfect their knowledge and motivate them for lifelong education;
  • to  encourage  improvement  of  life  environment  for  the  young  families  with  children  and seniors who are under the risk of social rejection and poverty.

The target group of the subproject: children and youth who are under the risk of social rejection and poverty, seniors. Place of the action of the subproject: region of Daugavpils, Nīcgale civil parish There are 888 inhabitants in the Nīcgale civil parish. 48 % of children in Nīcgale are brought up in incomplete families, 45 % of population are low income families and 40 % – large families. Inhabitants of Nīcgale do not believe in their own strength, the achievements of their children. We would like to involve parents, their children, youth and seniors in teamwork in order to change their interrelation, to raise their self-respect, to motivate them to change their lives, to find jobs, to be open for lifelong education.

In the subproject, activities like administration, conferences, variety of workshops – sports, recreating, sewing, dancing and music, languages, arts, cooking, wood-processing, metal working, computer practise – as well as learning, sitting in, excursions, closing presentation, publications of subproject will be implemented. Results: children, youth, seniors will be able to access the center of education and interest development in order to raise self-confidence, to strengthen their knowledge, to develop interests and healthy way of living, to spend their spare time purposefully, to become self-employed, self-sufficient citizens. Collaboration  partners  of  the  subproject  have  resource  and  technical  basis  as  well  as  human resources for realization of the subproject activities.



Project results:
  • Organisation of:
    • 111 sports, recreational, and health classes to promote healthy lifestyle and health (30 participants — new parents, seniors, children, and young people). The workshop also included the organisation of a Health Day;
    • 57 lessons in the sewing workshop, attended by 15 participants;
    • 59 lessons in the dance and music workshop, attended by 16 participants. Concert for broader audience was organised within the scope of the workshop;
    • 163 lessons in the language workshop (English, German, and Latvian), attended by 46 participants;
    • 109 lessons in the art workshop (glass and silk painting, floristics, weaving, painting), attended by 15 participants;
    • 57 lessons in the cooking workshop, attended by 15 participants;
    • 57 lessons in the woodworking and metalworking workshop, attended by 15 participants;
    • 57 lessons in the computer workshop, attended by 15 participants;
    • 434 lessons in the study workshop, where 40 children and young people could understand the school materials better under the guidance of professional teachers;
    • 57 lessons in the children baby-sitting group for new parents, attended by 15 participants.
  • One free-time excursion for children and young people, seniors and young parents (41 participants) has been organised, as well as one excursion to vocational schools, during which three schools in Daugavpils were visited to get to know various professions related to the skills covered during the project (21 children and young people);
  • Final presentation on project results (51 participants) was organised;
  • The project has contributed to improvement of quality of life for rural inhabitants of Līksna, Kalupe, and Vabole — children, young people, their parents, new families, and seniors — by means of involving project participants in activities that support and promote healthy lifestyle and by helping them learn and improve new work and social skills.
