Project objective – to create equal opportunities for children from families, which have been allocated with poor or low-income family status; to develop their creative abilities for free, working in creative workshops of children's day centre „Home" in their free time and participating with their own accomplishment in events, organized by the municipality.


Project objective – to create equal opportunities for children from families, which have been allocated with poor or low-income family status; to develop their creative abilities for free, working in creative workshops of children’s day centre „Home” in their free time and participating with their own accomplishment in events, organized by the municipality, to involve children and their parents in creative activities, bringing to families the sense of value, self-esteem and ability to integrate themselves in the society.

Target group – children aged 6 to 13 from poor and low-income families.

Project location – Latvia, Dundaga municipality, Dundaga parish.

Planned project activities:

  1. reconstruction and improvement of workshop premises.
  2. Workshops – a set of 16 lessons in ceramics, painting, sewing, joinery, computer graphics, creative imagination – with 36 children involved altogether. One workshop - for children’s parents.
  3. Children as managers of workshops in Dundaga Castle Day, their participation in the Travellers’ Day fair, and the opening of children’s work exhibition in Slītere Lighthouse.
  4. A trip to Ventspils.

The planned results – 36 children from families, where there are problems with the satisfaction of the basic needs, will have an opportunity to improve themselves in some special creative ways, and their accomplishment will be presented for wider society. A variety of creative and practical skills will be learned. The relations between children and their parents and positive self-esteem of the family will be strengthened. The lesson room will be renovated and landscaped. It will serve also as the room for children to implement their interesting ideas after the project, not dividing them by their social belonging, which has been formed by the level of the parental well-being and other factors.



Project results:
  • An environment matching children's needs has been arranged — a room for creative workshops centre has been renovated and arranged, where children, free of charge, can learn new skills and abilities necessary for their development in order to integrate in today's world:
    • 6 creative workshops have been organised (50 children participating);
    • Parents' Day was organised allowing parents to visit the centre to see the accomplishments of their children and to participate in activities of any of the creative workshops themselves. 16 parents of 27 children participated in this event;
    • 36 children involved in the project were in charge for creative workshops during Dundaga Castle's Day;
  • In cooperation with Slītere National Park Administration, exhibition of children's works has been arranged and opened at Slītere lighthouse;
  • Project participants went on excursion to Ventspils (36 children and 6 adults participating);
  • The project resulted in encouragement of the self-esteem and civic responsibility of target group children and their family members by their involvement and contribution to activities organised - being in charge of creative workshops during Dundaga Castle's Day, activities during the Travellers' Day Fair, and exhibition at Slītere lighthouse.
