Project Summary:

The overall aim of the project is to promote the input of civic society in devaluating of economic and social differences with the help of activities improving the life quality for children and youth undergoing social ignorance.The concrete aims of the project:

  • To form practical skills for orphans, children and youth without parents’ care through practical studies for the sake of improving life’s quality;
  • To find out the skills and knowledge of Latvian regions craftsmen in order to promote participation of socially and poorly disadvantaged groups into social processes and activities;
  • To develop and implement sports program which will be of help for orphans and children and youth without parents’ care in improving themselves and thus better integration into the society;
  • Give information about taking part into volunteers’ movement through implementation of different charity activities and actions meant for fostering of civic participation and social integration into the society;
  • To foster cooperation between nongovernmental and public sector through implementation of project’s activities. Aim group- 37 children and youth of Balvi Municipality undergoing social ignorance (orphans, children and youth without parents’ care)

Main activities:

  • Learning session ”Planning of Time and Financial Resources”;
  • Creative workshops (cookery, tabele etiquette, good manners, needlework (mending clothes, home textile), current repairs and replacing of dwelling, first aid skills);
  • Seminar ”Let’s Favour and Help”;
  • Exhibition of creative works ”We can do so much with the help of our hands!”;
  • Free time activities ”Let’s Have a Healthy Rest Together!”;
  • Formation of informal group supporting orphans and children and youth without parents’ care;
  • Set of excursions – exploration of Latvian regions craftsmen skills and knowledge;
  • Publicity measures

Planned results:

  • Formation of one support group;
  • Learning session ”Planning of Time and Financial Resources”of 16 lessons implemented;
  • 160 lessons of Creative Workshops done;
  • The programm for sports activities ”Let’s Have a Healthy Rest Together!”made, 80 lessons of sports activities carried out, night disco party organized;
  • Handbook ”If we have a desire, we can do so much......”made and published in 500 copies ( with the size of 20 pages);
  • 4 excursions from the set of excursions exploring Latvian regions craftsmen works managed;
  • Exhibition of creative works ”We can do so much with the help of our hands!”managed;
  • Publicity measures carried out through publishing 4 articles into the local newspaper „Vaduguns” and „Novadu Ziņas”, as well as placing regular information in the home pages of Balvi Municipality and Latvian Red Cross.

Life skills gained through the Project activities will make, develop and offer meaningful spending of free time, foster motivation and self-appraisal, contribute to forming an active life style, integration into labour market and society, form a link among state, municipality, social sector and inhabitants.



Project results:
  • 39 children and young people had the opportunity to acquire knowledge and practical skills in training "Laika un naudas līdzekļu plānošana" (Planning of Time and Monetary Assets) (in total, eight lessons, 16 academic hours for each), this will further assist in drafting work plan for a day, week, month, as well as give insight how to use time efficiently, plan expenditures and live thrifty;
  • In six creative workshops, 39 children and young people gained theoretical and practical knowledge about cooking, table culture, good behaviour, handicrafts, redecoration and arrangement of living premises, and giving first aid (in total, 160 academic hours);
  • Exhibition "Mēs varam daudz ar savām rokām!" (We Can Do Much with Our Hands!) was organised to exhibit the works created by children and young people, this has allowed them to realise their creativity and gain confidence in their abilities;
  • During the seminar "Atbalstīsim un palīdzēsim" (Let's Support and Help) about organising charity events, children and young people gained knowledge about the activities of the non-governmental organisation "Latvian Red Cross" and had the opportunity to participate in voluntary service — organisation of two charity events;
  • Within the scope of the activity "Veselīgi atpūtisimies kopā!" (Let's Relax Healthy Together!) a sports programme was developed (in total, 80 academic hours), sports day and night disco was organised. Children and young people learned swimming, Nordic walking, played volleyball, basketball, participated in water aerobics and board games. These activities promoted the cooperation between non-governmental and public sector;
  • Target group children and young people established a local initiative group and met eight times in seminars. They have created and issued a manual "Jaunieti, Tev noderēs!" (Young Person, You Will Need This!) (in 500 copies);
  • Four excursions have been organised to different municipalities in Latvia to learn more about craftsmanship experience and skills thus promoting integration of social risk groups in public processes and activities;
  • Premises of the association were redecorated and arranged to create a pleasant atmosphere for children and young people where they could actively work during the project and after its completion.
