Integration of long-term patients into the job market by providing ICT skills acquisition

The main aim of the project is to promote social exclusion risk group - long term chronic patients - re - integration in the job market and at the same time in the society. It will be done by motivating and supporting target group to learn new different level IT skills during the illness.

In the framework of the project several activities will be done:
- research about IT skills required in the job market, infrastructure and social climate in hospitals as well as long term patients needs;
- overtake of the good experience form the Norway;
- development of the Distance learning programme for IT skills acquisition in two different levels;
- piloting of the developed programme in 4 hospitals of Latvia.
- to reach as large proportion of target audience as possible, comprehensive dissemination and advertising campaign will be organised.

As a result, interactive Distance learning programme for IT skills acquisition will be developed and tested, about 100 long term chronic patient will acquire new IT skills, 4 hospitals will introduce learning system in their daily practice and about 1000 target group representatives will be informed about possibilities to learn new skills by developed programme.

Project results: The project objective was to promote the social inclusion of risk groups - long-term chronic illnesses, - integration into the labour market and, consequently, society, illness and rehabilitation motivating and helping the labour market to acquire the necessary different levels of IT skills.
The target group was the social exclusion and poverty and at risk population (324), including: 98 disabled persons and 226 persons in long-term treatment. As well as NGOs representing the above groups of people's rights and interests, including: 636 members, 15 employees and 448 volunteers.
The project achieved the following results:
A distance learning program online platform www.datorprasmes.lv two levels of knowledge;
Distance Education System datorprasmes.lv number of registered users 143 persons, of who participated in the training of 100 persons. Of the total number of users the system rate of 25 persons was a partner in the project participants;
Certificates of completion of the training program are issued at the request of the program is built on the Internet;
Overall, 30 medical institutions premises are located, informative announcements that calls for long-term ill patients to participate in training;
Measuring progress directly to an audience of information activities is to be measured 577 people, while the information through the mass media has reached several thousand people;
7 social workers of partner NGOs are familiar with NTNU Norwegian experience;
16 social workers are trained to work both motivating and involving patients suffering from long-term use of this program even after the end of the project;
There has been piloting the program four medical institutions.
The project provides a direct positive impact in promoting social sustainability. Results of the project 100 patients suffering from long-term assistance was given, so that they can return to the labour market, thus avoiding social marginalization and improving their social status in the community. More than 900 informed of this possibility directly. Long-term training programs are more widely introduced in more and more people will be given the opportunity to mastering new skills, assistance to avoid social marginalization.
Project partners
Throughout the project, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) partnership is a good thing. Based on the project partner's considerable experience and expertise in the relevant role of NTNU mostly filled with expert and consultant role, as well as provided an opportunity to take over positive experience from Norway, who acquitted himself as an absolute necessity, based on the nature of the project and project partner experience.
