The aim of the project: to increase parents’ knowledge and competence in upbringing and education of children with visual impairments in order to improve psychosocial development of such children and to encourage their social integration.
The target groups: children till 16 years with visual impairments and their parents who live in the city of Rezekne.
The place of implementation: Rezekne, Bukmuizas Street 20.
The main activities: workshops, physical activities and thematic events, realize them through individual, group and frontal form of work.
The expected results: an improvement in quality of life of children with visual impairments, development of their social interaction skills, creation of new social contacts with other children with similar health problems, as well as support of social integration of visually impaired children.

Project results: The aim of the project was to increase parents’ knowledge and competence in upbringing and education of children with visual impairments in order to improve psychosocial development of such children and to encourage their social integration. The aim is completely gained.
The target groups: children till 18 years with visual impairments and their parents who live in the city of Rezekne.
Within the framework of the project took place 51 activity. Created 9 workplaces, attracted 7 volunteers
The main activities: workshops, physical activities and thematic events, realize them through individual, group and frontal form of work.
The main results: an improvement in quality of life of children with visual impairments, development of their social interaction skills, creation of new social contacts with other children with similar health problems, as well as support of social integration of visually impaired children.
The experience gained in this project and the results are and will be used in work with children with visual impairments and these children’s parents. It was important to acquire the experience and knowledge accumulated during the project with the purpose to build new and enhance existing programs to work with children.
The information collected on the project is freely available to all interested people and other representatives or institutions, that are close to children with visual impairments or that are solving visual impairment’ socialization problems.
Based on the positive experience in the project, the employees of the association „SAULES STARS AV" during the implementation of the project were looking for new partners - the foundation ziedot.lv and the Latvian State Forests gave 5000 €(five thousand euro) and purchase inventory and furniture.
The interest of the project’ work has grown, although it was accentuated that the association's priority is children with visual impairments, in the workshops there had began to visit the children with mental retardation, children with disabilities. It was established the society’s „SAULES STARS AV" website http://saulesstarsav.lv/ , where was fully reflected all the association activities in Latvian and English languages, contributing the more publicity.
Microproject has reached the planned impact on the target groups:
- 24 from directly involved children with visual impairments have improved functional level, improved their participation, integration into society, independence; they had got successfully conducted the overall development and preparation for school, they started school and integrate in peer community.
- Different games developed children's motor coordination, reaction speed and spirit of competition. Children cooperated with each another, worked in a team, supported each other and cheered. Lesson leaders took care to keep a positive, open atmosphere / ambience.
- Overall, the children have mastered the creative self-expression skills, useful and meaningful leisure activities, communication skills and, above all, it was fostered children’s with visual impairments inclusion, integration into society, upheld the need for membership of a social group, peers and other people alike them.
- In the feedback children expressed their willingness to organize and participate in similar events to have more variety of adventure and excitement to be interesting, so that one can look at and walk through the town of Rezekne (patriotism), that they could master another new and not yet fully discovered creative self-expression skills and develop their finger-motor skills.
- The staff had improved the knowledge for future work in the rehabilitation and social work with children with visual and other disabilities, rehabilitation service quality had improved.

Society and industry experts are aware of the society’ program, methods and activities.
The selected sub-methods fully corresponded to the sub-audiences' needs and interests, as evidenced by the following facts:
- Increased association of people - children with special needs and their parents – number from 30 in the beginning of the project to 65 in the end of the project;

Society is examining options for cooperation with interested local authorities to continue its activities, because of the increasing interest not only of children but also their parents.
Society has managed to ensure the sustainability of the microproject:
1. The society will continue to offer workshops and support groups, which includes solving the problem of inclusion difficulties into society.
2. The society will continue the co-operation with Rezekne’s municipality.
3. The developed program is implemented to more and more children whose abilities and hand motility improving and developing by age and trainee process.
