Project results: Necessity:
Necessity of the project was identified by awareness of youth group at risk about one of the core values of our democratic society - gender equality, which is one of the fundamental values of democratic society. Project results will be stored on the website, as the research, methodological recommendations. The main benefit is that this information will be stored in the memories of the target group and as experience.
The project was implemented in Latvia (Rīga, Ventspils, Rēzekne, Jelgava, Alojas region), Russian Federation (Pskov).
Project target group 80 childrens and youth grown up in out-of family care centres (orphnages).
During the project research "How do young people from Children’s House understand gender identity and gender roles, knowledge and attitudes of the various aspects of gender equality" was carried out, "Methodological recommendations for educators and non-governmental organizations about education of the orphanage youth on gender equality " developed (printed in 1,000 copies) and created 900 DVD’s with recorded nine videos, research and the methodological recommendations in each disc and given to outside family care institutions, non-governmental organizations and interested parties.
Consequently, the results of the project are distributed and maintained for sustainable preservation of information and using in working with young people at risk.
•Identify and explore outside family care growing young people's awareness of gender roles and gender equality.
•Reduce stereotypes; deepen young people's awareness and knowledge of gender identity, the role of equality implications of harmonious relations, employment and careers.
•Encourage non-governmental organizations and teachers' skills to include in parenting process the role of gender equality using methodological recommendations based on the research and gained experience in collaboration with Russian partners;
The main benefit - knowledge of the various aspects of gender equality and risks, therefore we can conclude that the objectives of the project was fully achieved.
The project influenced young people from target groups to turn from information accumulators into its distributors in their own environment, telling and discussing in the collective and society, even arguing with their friends, schoolmates and acquaintances. The term "gender equality" has acquired a much broader sound and resonance than we had planned in the project. It should be noted that the interest in these issues is not weakened and diminished, because not only teachers, but also the young people are interested in the opportunities to participate in new projects and become as more active performers and distributors of civic participatory ideas in Latvian society. Therefore, it was promoted public welfare growth and availability of social services to the target group who has become more aware and cognizant, affected by the project.
Norwegian Financial Mechanism for the inclusion of horizontal priorities and implementation of the project management process contributed to the overall efficiency of the project and its objectives, and reduced social and economic differences in the European Economic Area.
Project partners - association "Do not stay alone" and "Independent women's social center" from Russian Federation gave unique experience in work with youth from risk group and contributed achievement of planned results. Both with the association "Do not stay alone" and the "Independent women's social center" concluded cooperation agreements about common realization of further activities. (July 10, 2015, will participate in "Independent women's social center" 20 Year Anniversary event).
